Summary: start driving to the NH hills at 1PM. Bike from car to the beginning of the hike from 4 to 6PM. Camp near Flume and route 93.
13:08 ODO 00.0 – depart the house
13:28 stop by at the club to pick up my Nikon camera for 30x optical zoom. Among other things, I am sending a Saturday soccer game poll now, as I might not have a signal on Friday morning.
15:51 -16:32 ODO 143.5 – elev. 1888 – I arrived at Beaver Brook parking lot and load the bike. This is paid parking – $5 for day of $30 per year. Luckily, I have a yearly pass. Attache walking stick to the backpack and attach backpack to the bike. There is a 2-bar cell signal – I send a message to Lira.
16:55 super-fast I ride down the mountains to the center of Woodstock.
17:14 – I am crossing 93 under using a underpass
One of the side roads leads to a parking for Indian Head Trail – a nice quite lot that will be completely occupied on Saturday.
17:53 BIKE 11.39 mi – elev. 1444 – I arrive at Liberty Springs Trailhead Parking
Hide the bike in the woods and start hiking to find a good spot nearby.
18:26 a wild spot on a tiny hill between the bike trail and hiking trail – very nice. I do not need water – I am not planning to cook. I will just eat porridge from home and drink water.
The night will be super cold – and all the clothes that I have are on me. No bugs – it is too cold for them – good!
19:14 I am in my hammock and eating my porridge from home. Instead of sugar or honey Lira used dates. The taste is very natural and very good. Pistachios are the biggest hit on the hike. At home they are relatively blend, but here I can’t get enough of them.
Route 93 is audible from my wooded spot, but in this case, it creates some sense of comfort. Bugs just disappeared completely because of cold. Lira sends back a message – “Allow yourself to breathe”. Yes. I tis important to remember that.
