01 2026-06 Preparations for the fourth trip

What was odd or strange about this fourth trip this year?

Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and complete the most popular and the most crowded section of New England Appalachian Trail (AT) – White Mountains and in particular – Presidential Range section over Mount Washington.

After returning from previous trip on June 5, I couldn’t find a good dry 2-3 days windows to go – all I saw was the rain all the time.

Finally, on June 18 I started to plan details of the Presidential Range NH section of the Appalachian Trail. This is a 26-miles hike from Webster Cliff on route 302 to Pinkham Notch on route 16.

On June 21 I see a potential gap in rainy days around Sunday, June 28.  The closer we are getting to the departure date, the clearer it becomes that I would use 2 nights and 3 days from SAT 06-27 to MON 06-29.  All these trip preparations are happening on the background that OTIS is not responding about extending my contract for another 6 months.

The final decision was taken on THUR 06-25, and all the packing and preparations were done on FRI 06-26.  Suddenly my sister Vera calls and tells me that after many years, her last day at work will be June 30. That is a worrisome event at 67 when you are still full of energy and have never NOT worked in your life.
