Registry-After-Deletion

I loved writing this article.  It tought me so much about power of good old batch commands.  Amazing! Say, I am trying to resolve a problem in a registry.  To isolate the problem, I need to delete hundreds of branches from an externally loaded Registry hive QQ\Classes from a parallel instance. For example, I need to delete all branches that start with letter “M”.  Doing it manually means hours of tedious clicking and possibility of disastrous “user” errors.  Can I do this with a batch file and REG DELETE? This article shows the way to do that.  Here is a plan of action:     First, I saw a quiet lonely post…

Genova - Very Expressive Composition

And just when you think there is nothing can beat the excitement of the highest mountains in Europe, you proceed to the road ahead. Next day, Sunday, August 22, we decided to bypass Turin and go directly to Genova.  We typed in an address of Red House Hostel (Via B.Buozzi, 26/9) in Genova and jumped on a highway. We easily found parking right on Via Bruno Buozzi, but we were a little confused what to do next.  There were no official sign or reception of any kind.  Instead, we found a small paper note for “Bed and Breakfast Maura“. It was just a 3-room apartment on the third floor, and you need to…

Everybody wants a shortcut for PS Sleep to save time on clicks. Instead of 3 clicks Start - Shutdown - Sleep every time, let's have just one click - Sleep. There is a way to do that. Please tell me, if this also works in Windows XP.

English Russian Learn from Donald Trump skills of handling the press Учись навыкам общения с предвзятыми репортерами Debates about the unexpected victory of Donald Trump do not cease.   Let’s learn from his skills of handling the belligerent reporters. Не утихают дебаты по поводу неожиданной победы Дональда Трампа. Давайте учиться у него   навыкам обращения с нападающими репортерами. I would like to list some amazing examples how Donald Trump pulled unexpected and disarming replies to typical and unpleasant reporters’ questions. Я хотел бы перечислить некоторые примеры про то, как Дональд Трамп находил неожиданные и разоружающие ответы на типичные и неприятные  вопросы. Question “She said that … ” and expect to hear some lie after that.…

It will Definitely Fall Down in the Next 50000 Years or So

Finally, on Saturday, August 21, 2010 it was time to take our first hike into the mountains. Back in Boston I picked a path going up towards Monte Bianco (Italian) from Italian side. It was a day trip starting from 1,500m parking lot and going as high as 2,590m at Rifugio Monzino. Just for a comparison Mont Blanc (French) is 4,800m (15,700’) high. On the way there we stopped at a local supermarket – Supermercato Mont Blanc (Courmayeur) to replenish, and we also took a couple of pictures.  If you scroll the image down, you’ll see the vintage point. Smart people from the supermarket intentionally installed the inspiring view to entice…

License-Sample

It is easy to renew your Driver’s License in Massachusetts,  if you do some preliminary work online. I just did; it is easy. Government spent some money to setup a very good Web interface to save your time. Someone made this process really painless.  And that’s what makes America so great. Sometimes Government is on your side. Here are the simple steps. You can do it before your birthday.  I did it 30 days before the expiration date. Fill out a form online.  You will get a 3-page PDF document that you need to print and sign. You have 60 days from that moment to visit DMV. They usually open 9 to…

Machiavelli

Let’s learn something new today. Let’s learn how modern power brokers deepened and expanded Machiavellian teachings of today. First, let’s set the stage.  It is March of 2016 both Democrats and Republicans are bracing for the fact that Trump is leading and might easily get enough votes to get automatically nominated in July as a candidate from Republican party.  Power brokers in both parties begin to evaluate their next moves to stop the inevitable. On March 03, 2016,  Mitt Romney unleashes his famous unsolicited defacing speech against member of his own party. But that completely misfires.  Now it is Democratic functionaries turn to come with a plan to deface a new star. Here…

I am running PHP on IIS 7.5.   This is a Windows 2012 Server.  Fresh clean install every time. The only way to access and delete these TEMP files are by using  a command prompt.  And this deletion procedure will run for several DAYS . . .   The Problem The story goes like this.  Fresh new instance of a Windows 2012 Server is great.  It runs fast and smooth.  But after 5 or 6 months MySQL service having hard times to start up.  And a little later – couldn’t start at all.  The only way I can make it run is to start it from a command prompt.  And finally the whole server just slows…

Who is it? - It is a little particle. - Please come in...

On the morning of August 20, Friday we woke up in Geneva.  You have to show your hotel receipts at the kitchen counter to get your breakfast.  Lots of people of all ages.  Some tourists, but some looked like ready to take off for work. As usual, the roads were either under construction or blocked off.  It means GPS could not help us.   It was raining that morning.  It means pedestrians couldn’t help us.  So, we improvised our detour driving towards CERN in Meyrin (right on the French border).  We planned to be here on Wednesday morning, but Fribourg and Montreux held us in their “chArms“. Public is no longer allowed under…
