Notes after Woodstock Fruit Festival 2016

Woodstock Fruit Festival was held from August 21 to August 28, 2016.

This page will eventually grow with more and more pictures from various days of this week-long event.
Most of this will be interesting for the actual participants of the Woodstock Fruit Festival that has nothing to do with Woodstock.

Kale – not too much!

Cruciferous (крестоцветные) vegetables like . . .

arugula,
bok choy,
broccoli,
brussel sprouts,
cabbage,
cauliflower,
collard greens,
kale,
mustard greens,
turnips, and
watercress

. . . contain substances (Goitrogens) that may block iodine metabolism and contribute to an enlarged thyroid.  The exact amount of kale ingestion that may be associated with an adverse thyroid health risk is unknown.  In particular, Kale contains thiocyanate (тиоцианат) that is a type of Goitrogenic chemical.

What are Goitrogens?  Goitrogens are substances (whether in drugs, chemicals, or foods) that disrupt the production of thyroid hormones by interfering with iodine uptake in the thyroid gland.

Juicing kale will increase concentration of many of its ingredients including substances that cause blocking if iodine digestion (усвоение).

At the festival Don Bennett mentioned that he doesn’t eat kale.
