11 Austria and Italy 2008 – August 25 – Venezia I

Late Evening in Venezia

Padova to Venezia Next day Monday, August 25 we rejected the option to remain here at Padova and keep riding to Venezia on train every day.   We just drove remaining 30km to Venezia. Venezia is connected with mainland by a long plain bridge or connector.  Several such connectors are going parallel to each other for cars and trains. The parking that we found right on the bus terminal plaza cost us 24€ per day.  From travel guides I was expecting 18€.  We picked just the cameras and water and embarked on our conquest on Venezia. From all locations this one was the most exciting.  O boy, o boy!  Do I ever expect to…

What it Takes to Run Your Own Web Site (ever in progress)

New-Web-Area

Joy of Web Publishing Very early on I noticed that Web content is a very special type of content, and Web development is a very special type of development.  Everything you say and everything you design is immediately available not just to millions, but to an entire Earth population with electricity and Internet.  And that is amazing.   And that is a true lure of running a Web site. Your thoughts and ideas are buried deep inside your head, but with Internet these ideas can find their customer, and your thoughts can find their reader.  Your site is your creation.  It is another dimension of you. Answer Fundamental Questions What is your Angle?…

09-01 MO – Some magnesium fire please

2017/07/07

09-01 07;29 Sun is just getting through the woods

Slow start.   Finally decided to break open my magnesium fire starter kit.  It was $12 at EMS, but it did not include the knife of metal strip to do the magnesium shavings.  I had to use my own knife.  I was struggling for about 40 minutes with the instructions, and dump kindling, and shavings again.  The sparks would fly, and fire would almost starts, but not really.  Finally, I had to go to plan number one:  dry paper and matches.  I have got my fire going, and then breakfast, and then completed taking down the camp.  I started walk back with a heavy (but light) backpack at 11:38. Around…

Read Registry value into a batch variable

2017/07/06
By
Rue-Sainte-Catherine--2015-

Before I forget, let me share with you a fantastic way to read values from Registry into a batch file variable. Say you need to determine, what is the date format of this machine.  Normally you would read a value from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International like this: REG QUERY "HKCU\Control Panel\International" /v sShortDate   That command will produce an output similar to this: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International sShortDate    REG_SZ    M/d/yyyy But you do not need all that.  All you need is the string  “M/d/yyyy” (or “yyyy-MM-dd”).  To get just that string you need to skip to a second line and read third field on the last line.  How you can do that in a batch…

6:50AM - Rifugio Alimonta - 2580 m

Saturday, August 23 – Rifugio Alimonta (Gruppo di Brenta) Next day on Saturday, August 23 I opened my eyes at 6:40AM, and sun already appeared through the mountains. I climb down from my bunk and ventured outside to record this strange moon-like surface that we missed to photograph 4 year ago. After a very dull breakfast and final pay (72€ for food, shower and lodging for two) we started back out at 8AM. We saw a picture like this in our local library.   Now, we found the place.   Notice people on the other side of the ledge. First 4 hours we should be climbing up back to Vie Ferrate, going at…

Set up bbPress as WP Plugin: Convert from bbPress standalone

2017/07/04
By

We went live with new bbPress plugin on January 28, 2013.   bbPress as a plugin for WordPress I started preparing for series of upgrades to the latest WP version (3.5), and Theme and all the plugings.  It was immediately obvious that among other things, I would have to look into migrating from integrated bbPress to a bbPress as a WP plugin. So far my experience was pretty intense.  I will try to log my progress here as I am moving forward preparing a production roll-out on my test site. Migrate your bbPress data from “bb_” tables into your “wp_” database I was able to migrate all the content from old…

08-31 16;08 Reliable cup holder

Last event yesterday links with the first event today.  Late last night I discovered that cheap charge wire for iPhone that I buy from China for $1 stopped working, and my phone have only 5% charge left.  Today, I found a twist of the wire and I was able to maintain it with a rubber band to allow the charging to resume.  Way cool!  And now, what should be my new policy toward cheap wires – always have a spare cheap wire to spare?   07:45 – Second morning in the woods – Seize the Day! 09:14 – Boiling water is a clean water 09:28 – Hot cereal with fruits and…

What Are Animal Proteins And Why to Avoid Them?
(in progress…)

2017/07/02
By

So many people nowadays are arguing about complex biochemical matters.  Where all these specialists came from all of a sudden?  Do they really know what they are talking about?  This matter seems serious enough to start our own investigation. Let’s start with main questions: What is SO DIFFERENT about animal proteins as opposed to plant-base protein? On the surface, it looks as if the only problem with animal protein is that it is in the meat, and meat contains fat, and fat is what is bad and wrong and needs to be avoided.  Could it be that simple? Next question is about compatibility. Human body produces various proteins (all Enzymes are…
